Getting Started - Various Battle Plans (Goals)

Apostolic Campus Ministries

Collective Goals Summary 2007-2008

Antioch Youth Ministries’ “WIN” Definition:

  • Connecting students to God
  • Connecting converts to the body
  • Connecting disciples to ministry

Therefore, ACM leaders have asked themselves:

“Does this goal/idea/activity/event…

                        Connect students to God,

Connect converts to the body, or

                        Connect disciples to the ministry?”

The answer to at least one of those should always be “yes”.

Ideally, the answer to ALL of them should be “yes”.

Apostolic Campus Ministries’ Goals for 2007/2008 academic year:

  1. Establish a presence on the Towson University and UMCP campuses.
  2. Nurture and develop existing campus ministries at AACC and Bowie.
    1. Strive to fulfill all three AYM goals on a regular basis.

  1. Develop a Campus Ministry Model that promotes unity of the body of Christ, fulfills the goals of AYM, and that can be easily replicated as new campus ministries are born.
    1. Focus on International Students
    2. Begin monthly Campus Evangelist Care Group meetings
  1. promote accountability among ACM leaders
  2.                                           i.    Marketing materials

  5.                                           i.    Training new campus teachers, ministers, and leaders
  6.                                          ii.    Preparing for GROWTH!
  1.
    1. Promote CAMPUS PRAYER
    2. Provide support resources for new and existing ministries
  1.
    1. Focus on “replacing yourself”

This is what I am feeling from the Lord to do for Fall '07-

My plan is to continue the Wed @ 7 open format like we have been, giving people the opportunity to teach, fellowship, etc.

I am also planning on a Monday or Tuesday to have a 50 minute slot for "Parables 101," in which we can discuss different parables in the gospels and keep that theme throughout the semester.  On the same day, immediately following or just prior, I am going to do a 50 minute session either called "Power Hour" or "Heart of David" for worship/practice.

Parables 101 could be advertised like it's just another class, keeping "Apostolic Campus Ministries" to a minimum.  This way, I hope to lure in several of the Baptist Campus Ministries kids in more of non-denominational, non-intrusive format.   BCM will probably be weak this semester because Jess the backbone is moving on to College park and to my knowledge they don't have a replacement for her yet.  Also, like we've discussed previously, this hopefully eliminates the nighttime/work excuses of Antioch kids who attend AACC of why they can't be in bible study.

I have already secured permission to use one of the soundproof instrument practice rooms in CADE for weekly worship, it's just a matter of nailing down the exact time slot.  After I get that time slot firmed up, I'll reserve a room for Parables 101 for before or after so I can make one trip down.

My idea for worship is obviously to spend an hour worshipping ON campus, but in keeping with the ACM mission, provide an atmosphere where kids can practice using their instruments of worship, learn new worship/praise songs, and perhaps once a month have a special guest like Mother Wright, Sister Kimbrell, Sister Mott, and Sister DeChant come and teach, help, lead, etc.

I am not so naive as to think that this is going to draw any type of regular large attendance, it may be just me, myself, and I but hey, if I'm going to play my guitar and sing in my guest bedroom on a Monday at 2pm I may as well do it on campus.

But I think that being able to have a bigger schedule will increase awareness and credibility for the club on campus.

Another idea I had for the club for fundraising/budgeting for next year is to purchase a computer and 3-4 ipods that we could compile sermons, lessons, mannafest CD's on the ACM computer hard drive, and then d/l to ipod's every week and check the ipods in and out like library books for club members.   I find myself lending out my shame/manna/leadership/soulwinning CD's to all the hungry kids consistently, this would be a way for everyone to compile their cd's and share with everyone.

This will tentatively be for Fall and see how it goes, and Spring may have to change because they are shutting down Careers building for renovation and they are losing all those classrooms and offices so space will be at a huge premium according to Jerry Vess.  But obviously, if the Lord is in it then those are his problems not ours.

  • Weekly bible studies on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m.
  • Back-to-school open house on the 19th during the day.
    • This will be used to get our name out more and to be able to talk to the students.
  • Another goal is to get everyone involved in a personal 1 on 1 bible studies.
  • Due to scheduling conflicts we have not been able to have a planning meeting but as soon as we do we will be coming up with other functions for the year. I am very sure we will have a good number of students attending these bible studies and would very much like it if Bro. Mott were able to come and be a guest speaker once or twice.

As I discussed with Cullen, our plan for this semester is extremely basic and elementary, due to the lack manpower, as well as the only manpower available being overwhelmed with going to a University!

Here are a couple things that are in the process of being done, that are in the beginning stages:

  1. Once a week prayer meetings/walks on campus.
  2. Involvement in the ISA and SGA (More details to follow)
  3. Securing the “Campus Ministry Room” at Towson.
  4. Personal Evangelism – Bible Studies

On a more administrative level, several things we will be working on this Fall semester:

  1. Finding 8 people who would be willing to sign on and become members of a Campus Ministry.
  2. Submitting the necessary paperwork, including the mandatory community service agreement. (Attached is more information)
  3. Again, getting involved administratively with the ISA and SGA.

As we start the semester, I really think we’re going to have to be realistic about what can be accomplished at a major university, by two guys who are having trouble adjusting to the workload J  I do believe we can make a lot of progress; however I have tempered my goals a bit from my original plans. I don’t really see having Living Water this semester, maybe by the end of Spring Semester.

To expound upon the ISA and SGA, here is our involvement so far.

International Student Affairs – These are Kal’s goals:

1. Be a member of the ISA and attend meetings and go to most of their events and try to help out when willing and able to do that.

2. Be an international student ambassador (next semester). We have to be at least 1 semester in TU before applying to be an IS ambassador. I will explain more about the point of being an ambassador tomorrow in our meeting.
The requirements to be one is to be an International student (me) and/or have experience in other countries, visit or educational (you). In Jesus name we both can be ambassadors, and the Holy Ghost will do its thing.

3. Try to find a part time job in the ISSO (International Student and Scholar office) or in the IA (International admissions). This will bring me closer to international students and be able to help them with there problems and slowly befriend them and God will do the rest.

Student Government Association – Adam:

  1. I have applied to be a Student Government Association Senator, which means I would be involved in several things, specifically:
    1. Representing Student Organizations
    2. Helping Student Organizations with creating Budgets
    3. Sitting on the panel that approves or denies Student Organizations and their budget proposals.
    4. If I get approved to be a Senator, I can then run for higher office next year, which would give me more opportunity and more exposure to meet people.
    5. I hope to help Kal get involved more with the ISA, and be involved myself as much as I can.

As far as the Spring semester goes, I really have no idea right now. I need to see how this semester goes, and how much progress we make, realistically, before I can make any other plans.

    • Guidebook idea
    • Also examples of small bible studies, faith, mercy, forgiveness (little teaser/”soul-watering” studies)
    • Questions and answers that young adults of this age may ask about their faith, including inspiration.
      • Young adults, during this difficult transition time, may experience depression, suicide, certain temptations; give them examples or inspirations to make it through from the Bible!!!! (Deeply consider Testimonies of some on campus or others) (be careful Holier than thou attitude; we want to make sure we do not seem more “holy” than them. Testimonies will help with this)
      • Purchase Football/Basketball (if can) Tickets to use for evangelism
      • Box of Questions
        • Have during events so that people who are shy and don’t want to ask questions can drop their question in the box and have it answered the next week.
          • Great for the purpose of also giving us time to research answer :
          • Show “Hello World” Service
            • This would serve as an opportunity for those interested to see Antioch services.  This is a good idea for those who are unwilling to attend church by themselves and may be used as a segue to get them attached and feel comfortable with the body

THE WIN!!!!

The win for ACM @ UMD is, so far, defined for the fall semester as getting the club recognized by the Student Government Association.  Along with this we want to make ourselves present at other club functions: it may be religious organizations, it may be secular.  We MUST make ourselves, not our group, known and available on campus.  As not being a group yet we  MUST NOT wait until the Spring semester to start creating relationships and contacts; for if we do this, we risk being further behind and  wasting an entire semester playing catch up.  While I also understand it is risky to attend said functions, I feel as long as we keep a strong foundation of bi-weekly prayer it is an obtainable and necessary goal!!!!

The win for the school year is defined as creating the ACM club, establishing, although possibly minimal, a budget for the spring semester (for experience) and creating a strong relationship with those necessary to keep our club in good graces with those necessary to see that all our needs are met, i.e. those in the SGA.  Along with this, I want to make sure and see that the club is able to sustain itself through the semester and the following year.  This would mean having enough people involved and or know of people that will be attending UMD the following year to ensure that ALL positions are taken care of and goals are set for the fall.  The ministry goals for the year are to make sure, especially spring semester, that this campus is rained upon with ACM info and spirit.  The avenues we have so far seen make it nearly impossible for us not to come in contact with hundreds if not thousands of people a day.  To hand out fliers, just stand and smile, or try to obtain survey information in the spring semester should not be an unobtainable goal, especially if we are able to get a table at the 3 day fair event in the spring.  The final goal which MUST be met, would be to see that all meetings, prayer times and out-reach times stay consistent and attended by ALL participating “disciples” (I understand it would not be realistic to mandate all the “hungry” to consistently attend).
